“ | It is about womanhood, how woman is at the centre of life, how she nourishes, eats and of course the valuable things that come from her body. The gush of diarrhoea is symbolic, it is a symbol of joy and happiness, it is all about life and birth. In that one moment of pure beauty we see the circle of life from anus to mouth, the perfection of Yin and Yang | ” |
”Tubgirl” herself, supposedly[1] |
Tubgirl is a shock image that was first uploaded to an unknown website, possibly ConsumptionJunction.com, Stile Project, or Something Awful[2] by an unknown creator sometime in the very early 2000s.
The image depicts a woman, naked save for a strange mask and white stockings, lying in a small bathtub with a fountain of yellow-orange liquid (either enema or diarrhea) shooting out of her anus and onto her face. Due to the genitalia being censored it was probably originally from Japan. The picture has many mirrors such as tubgirl.me and tubgirl.fr, which are used as a bait and switch, in which a user clicks on a misleading domain or link and gets redirected to the image.
History
The image is notable for the general mystery surrounding its origin. It was obviously created sometime before 2002 and is likely Japanese in origin due to the censorship of the woman’s genitalia. The Tubgirl.me site also features a second, nearly identical image where the woman is wearing black-and-red fishnets and a blindfold, with a much less directed flow of anal expulsion and a piece of paper with a crude drawing of a vulva on it in place of digital censorship.
Tubgirl interview
In 2009, an alleged interview with the original model behind Tubgirl was posted on Bikechatforums.com, which claimed the image was artistic in nature and created by a photographer known only as “T***** F*****”.[3] Obviously there is absolutely no proof of the interview’s authenticity and thus it should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
Spread
On February 15th, 2002, the domain tubgirl.com was registered. On August 1st, 2005, Urban Dictionary user Mike Oxlong submitted an entry for "tubgirl," which describes the photo in detail. On October 18th, 2007, the tubgirl image was featured on the front page of Kotaku as part of a prank by Gizmodo editor Brian Lam. That day, Kotaku issued an apology to readers who had seen the image.[4] On December 11th, YouTuber Kat uploaded footage of herself mimicking the tubgirl pose on the floor of a dressing room. Within nine years, the video gained over 1.7 million views.
On April 16th, 2011, YouTuber Billy Nunez uploaded audio of the late comedian Patrice O’Neal's appearance on The Black Phillip Show, during which he discusses tubgirl as well as other shock sites. On January 9th, 2016, YouTuber PewDiePie posted a video titled "Things You Should Never Google (Warning Gross) #2", in which he views the tubgirl image along with other shock media. Within three months, the video gained over 5.3 million views and 32,000 comments.
The image would later become famous on TikTok as part of a similar reaction/“things you shouldn’t Google” trend.
Tubboy
There is a parody of this site called Tubboy.net, which contains two images. The first image shows a nude man lying inside a bathtub filled with brown water, with his legs in the air and orange liquid gushing from his anus. The second image shows the text "tubboy.net" written in black marker on the man's right buttock. At the bottom of the website, there is a line of text saying "Inspired by the original TubGirl."
