Soul Mongler
The Soul Mongler (also known as "The Grinning Man") is a well-known screamer image originally created by revolutio on August 19th, 2006. It depicts a dark photo of man with a blue-tinted filter, creepy smile, dark eye sockets, and exaggerated facial expression.[1]
Its creepypasta revolves around a cursed image known as "The Grinning Man", which, when viewed alongside a mysterious keyword, causes paranoia, violent hallucinations, and eventual psychosis. After discovering the image in his deceased friend's email, the protagonist begins experiencing nightmares, sleepwalking episodes, and a growing loss of control over his actions. As his condition worsens, he becomes increasingly convinced that The Grinning Man is influencing him, just as it had driven his friend Joe to commit murder-suicide.[2]
The name Soul Mongler was inspired by the well-known 4chan meme "Cockmongler", which features a ginger man making a similarly intense smiling expression. The original, unedited version of this image comes from that meme, and due to its popularity, it has been widely edited and incorporated into various other memes and images. The Cockmongler image originates from the website for "The Worlds Largest Dinosaur", which is a large sculpture located in Drumheller, Alberta.[3]
The image also made an appearance on Luther: The Fallen Sun, which is a crime/thriller film made in 2023. It is claimed that the creepy face mask used in the film is a "red bunker logo".[4]
