Afraid is a screamer game developed by NexyusProductions (@NexyusNex) and published to Gamejolt on July 14, 2014.
The game gained popularity when the YouTuber Luigikid posted a gameplay video just two days after its release.
It is designed to start as a typical platformer where the player controls Luigi in a peaceful landscape to search for Mario. The player uses the arrow keys to move and the enter key to jump through a quiet level to find the missing Mario. As Luigi progresses, various texts suggest Mario has disappeared without explanation until the game suddenly switches to an inverted color scheme with a wall spawning behind the player to slow them down.
After seeing the text "I can see someone," the player eventually finds an image of a grinning Mario with no eyes and red pupils. This encounter shows the text "DON'T BE AFRAID" at the bottom of the screen, accompanied by a loud screech from Tails Saves Mobius.exe and ends the game.
If the player walks to the left instead of the right, they will find a hidden area with messages stating "Luigikid is here!" alongside several other notes condemning the YouTuber.
