Google.exe is a screamer video game created and published on November 8, 2016, developed by RecordGuy626 using Game Maker 2.1.0 version.
Plot
The narrative centers on Tim Hairten, a teenager who dealt with severe depression and child abuse, ultimately succumbing to the guidance of a mysterious voice, which leads him to commit suicide. In the afterlife, Tim encounters the voice in person, making him reflect on whether he acted upon its commands. As he senses an unusual feeling represented by cryptic symbols, Tim discovers his judgment by death as an immortal spirit destined to spend his existence in Google. Returning with other ghosts, he curses Google's latest updates, causing chaos, eerie consequences, and a particular update, Version 6.6.6. Unbeknownst to the company, the haunted website scares unsuspecting users, with victims falling prey to the curse and chaos ensuing. A year later, the corrupted file reappears for Windows, indicating that Tim is returning with a dark warning of more things to come.
Gameplay
The application opens with a simulated Google interface, featuring limited interactable elements like the search bar, the "search" button, and the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. Players can input anything in the search bar and, if available, be redirected; otherwise, they are redirected to a list of available contents.
First column
- "About Google" redirects to a note indicating that Google has been updated for "safety and security" and suggests visiting Gmail for more information.
- Google Earth allows players to search for any country, presenting an image of Earth in the background. Typing in a desired country results in the image transforming into an explosion accompanied by an exceptionally loud beeping noise. The application then opens with a note reading "Invalid country you had putten [sic], It doesn't exist..."
- Gmail opens up with a password interface, but the player can type anything they would and should be redirected to the mailbox, with one mail available in it. The mail contains a message from "The Google Team" to the point it reveals the player is being stalked around and they know the player's identity. After leaving the page, the button for accessing Gmail is made unavailable.
Second column
- Google Update triggers a message box saying "Welcome to Version 6.6.6." Subsequently, the list of contents changes to the text "Denied," and the background shifts to static. These actions prompt an "Access Denied" message box, and after a moment, the game abruptly closes, leaving a note behind with the words "DENIED YOURSELF DENIED YOURSELF."
- Choosing Google Photos reveals a list of stock images, mainly related to Google and entrepreneurs. The search bar, when used for Google Speed Update, transitions to a text prompt. However, it abruptly shifts to an image of Amy Peterson from Fright Night, accompanied by the same scream used in Mov0001.swf.
- Google Settings displays a fake error message that this service is not available yet.
Third column
- YouTube redirects to an "unavailable" video titled "Unknown Blog" by Tim Hairten, later interrupted by an image of a vampire-like grin. Subsequently, the application closes, and static displays on the screen.
- Asurion.com claims to scan for viruses without requiring an actual anti-virus. Players can test it by clicking on "Scan." However, during the scan, the application cuts to static and closes abruptly. A notepad message appears, stating, "Your Computer Issues are solved. Your Computer Issues are solved. Your Computer Issues are solved."
- Ask.com directs players to the actual page of Ask.com, constrained by a single button for asking something. Anything entered there is automatically replaced by "Google.exe," yielding results for "Google.exe." Clicking on it results in a message box saying "Google Refused," returning the player to the list of contents. This sequence is briefly interrupted by an image of Katie Embry from The Ring.
Old version
The earlier version of the application presented users with choices such as YouTube, CD Drive Cleaner, Google Update, and various Google services.
- Google Update triggers a message box displaying: "WELCOME TO GOOGLE NIGHTMARE PAGE." Subsequently, the interface shifts to a dark red version with the ominous text "You shouldn't have done that." Users may encounter occasional message boxes with the statement "You met a terrible fate, haven't you?" However, interacting with these boxes merely closes the application while generating three eerie text files.
- YouTube opens a video displaying TV static and an error message. After a while, the screen changes into an image of Sonic.exe, accompanied by static. The application then opens the browser, presenting a text prompt that reads "Hello, do you want to play with me?" before generating files again containing eerie text.
- CD Drive Cleaner directs users to a page with a CD drive, text, and a clean button. Clicking the clean button begins a loading bar progression to 100%, ending with the application closing. Additionally, an image of the moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask pops up accompanied by a loud scream.
The program features an Easter egg with a clue embedded in the text files. The clue suggests an answer starting with "G" and ending with ".exe," revealing "Google.exe." Entering this into the search bar transforms the homepage into a demonic version. After a brief second, a message emerges stating "You shouldn't have done that," followed by a screen displaying eyes and a smile, accompanied by a loud scream, ultimately redirecting the user to an image associated with the creepypasta character, Ben Drowned.
