Afraid is a screamer game developed by NexyusProductions (@NexyusNex) and published to Gamejolt on July 14, 2014. The game gained popularity when it was played by the YouTuber known as Luigikid, who posted a gameplay video of it just two days after its release. The game is designed to start off as a typical platformer, with the player controlling Luigi in a peaceful landscape and is tasked to search for Mario himself.
The game starts with the player controlling Luigi in a peaceful landscape, using the arrow keys to move and the enter key to jump. The object of the game is to reach the end and find Mario. As the player progresses through the game, they encounter various texts that suggest that Luigi is searching for Mario, who is missing without any explanation. After walking for a while, the game suddenly changes to an inverted color scheme, with the exception of the terrain. A wall spawns behind the player, and their movement speed slows down. As the player progresses, they encounter the text "I can see someone," which leads them to continue further. Eventually, the player encounters an image of Mario with no eyes and red pupils, grinning, along with the text "DON'T BE AFRAID" displayed at the bottom of the screen. The encounter is accompanied by an extremely loud scream, which serves as a jump scare and an ending to the game.
