Harlequin Fetus is a shock image which shows a baby with a rare skin disease with massive scales on the body which is reddish in color. The baby also has completely red eyes that are possibly pools of blood, in addition, babies are infected with a severe genetic disorder called Harlequin ichthyosis which mainly affects the skin. The newborn infant is covered with plates of thick skin that crack and split apart. The thick plates can pull at and distort facial features and can restrict breathing and eating. Mutations in the ABCA12 gene cause harlequin ichthyosis.

Due to its shocking nature of this image, they are often used as a bait and switch to trick people to not search this particular image, as part of DoNotGoogle meme, According to Google Analytics, it has been spreading around the internet since 2003.
In January 16th, 2004, an Urban Dictonary user Bubby submitted an entry about the image, telling users to not search up, he also describes the image as "the most horrifying image of a disease anybody has ever seen". another Urban Dictionary user submitted an another entry for Harlequin Fetus, describing it as "the most severe form of congenital ichthyosis.", receiving over 500 likes.
