Fun Quiz (Japanese: たのしいクイズ, Tanoshii Kuizu) is a Japanese mobile game developed by Nao Yanase in 2018.
Gameplay
The game presents itself as a normal quiz game, featuring an "Easy" difficulty to start. The Easy mode consists of 10 straightforward trivia questions. Upon losing all three hearts in Easy mode, the player is presented with a choice between two buttons, one to return to the game mode screen and the other to return to the title screen. However, upon completion of Easy mode, the player is given access to the "Normal" difficulty level which is where the game takes an unsettling turn.
In Normal mode, players are presented with a series of ordinary questions until they reach the fourth question. Upon reaching the fourth question, players are presented with a question consisting of nonsense text and answers. Unlike the previous three questions, players are unable to select any answer choices. After 20 seconds pass, the player will be taken to a new question screen where gibberish text overflows beyond the borders of the question box. Furthermore, the answer buttons will scatter across the screen, accompanied by additional gibberish text, unsettling audio, and vibrations from the player's device.
The game then proceeds to the next "question", in which the question box is blank, but the answer choices are the opening lines from Yumeno Kyūsaku's detective novel Dogra Magra [ja]. The screen then transitions to an ominous black background, with an excerpt from the novel depicted in red text appearing accompanied by unsettling audio. Suddenly, an illustration of a girl from Irasutoya appears on the screen along with a voice clip saying 誰だ (dare da, "who is it").
Following this, the game returns to a more conventional format, featuring a press-the-button minigame. In this minigame, the player is challenged to accumulate 100 points by pressing the black button labelled 押[1] repeatedly. However, the game is designed to deceive the player into believing that the black button is the correct one to press. If the player presses the black button more than 22 times, they will be greeted with a close-up image of a Japanese doll, accompanied by a shriek and vibrations from the player's device. The actual way to score 100 points in the minigame is to press the ボタン (botan, "button") text rather than the black button. Once the player reaches 100 points, the game ends and the screen turns red with gibberish text. Pressing the first button brings the player to the title screen, which now has a red background.
Upon pressing the start button, the game directs the player to a series of timed story quizzes, unlike the previous game modes. If the player gets the question wrong, the screen fills up with repeated red text that reads 間違えるな (machigaeru na, "don't make a mistake"), and then brings the player back to the red title screen. Upon completing the quiz, the player is brought to a thank you page, and has the option to either leave a review, solve more quizzes, or return to the title screen. If the player chooses to return to the title screen, it no longer has a red background.
