Content Warning! |
PhoneTrace.org is a bait and switch shock site made in 2005, it pretends to be a website that can trace any phone. The bottom of the website also has text that allows the viewer to send it to their friends.
The website requires the victim to enter their phone number and state, after the viewer clicks on "Trace it now" the website will take the viewer to a fake GPS tracker, which is actually a flash animation. A fake satellite image will appear and the animation will pretend to find the viewer's phone
After a while, the same GIF from Meatspin will appear while the 2003 remix of "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" by Dead or Alive plays in the background. After a few seconds, the webpage takes the viewer back to the main page.
History
In September 2013, the shocking content was removed and the result changed to a clip of Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley[1]. A few years later, the result changed to a low-quality, black-and-white image of a couple sitting in a bathtub accompanied by western music. The image currently remains.
The GPS page was also remade in HTML5 since Adobe Flash Player has been discontinued and this site has also been at the bottom of every ShockSiteList.com page.
Satellite-GPS-Locator
A safe-for-work version of the site exists as well, located at satellite-gps-locator.com, where the shock content is replaced with a shirtless man in the mud making a face, along with some banjo music.
