DeviantArt is an online community featuring artwork, videography, and photography. It was launched on August 7, 2000, by Angelo Sotira, Scott Jarkoff, Matthew Stephens, and others.
Background
DeviantArt is an online community platform where users can share and showcase their artwork, photography, and other creative projects. To use DeviantArt, a user must first create an account, which allows them to upload their own artwork, comment on and favorite other users' artwork, and participate in the community by joining groups, forums, and chats. Once a user has created an account, they can begin to customize their profile by adding a profile picture, banner, and information about themselves. They can also create galleries to organize and showcase their artwork.
Users can browse through artwork using the search function or by exploring different categories and tags. They can also follow other users and receive updates on their latest artwork and activity. In addition to sharing artwork, DeviantArt also offers resources for artists, such as tutorials, brushes, and stock images.
On screamers
While the site primarily serves as a space for art, some users have used DeviantArt to post screamers - videos or images that suddenly display a terrifying image or sound, often used to startle the viewer. Many of these screamers use flash animations created by DeviantArt users, and can be disguised as harmless icons or links, or as artwork or fan art related to popular shows, movies, or video games (e.g An Ordinary Battle Amongst Familiar Hills). However, DeviantArt has implemented several measures to prevent the posting of screamers on their website. They have established rules against posting screamers or other harmful content, and employ a team of moderators who monitor the website and remove any offending content. Users are also encouraged to report any screamers or other harmful content they encounter on the site. Despite these efforts, some screamers still manage to make their way onto the platform.
