Stare at the dot on his nose
Stare at the Dot! is a video created by Richard Wiseman, a renowned psychologist, for his Quirkology channel on YouTube.
The video features an intriguing inverted effect where Wiseman instructs the viewer to focus on his nose, and a blue dot suddenly appears on it. However, just as Wiseman reassures the audience that there will be no scary sounds or screams, the video switches to a grayscale effect. The idea is that the positive color afterimage of the negative color part of the video will overlap with the black and white part of the video and you’ll briefly see what looks like a full-color video. This is a very simple trick that’s been known about for a long time, and also works by looking at blank backgrounds or by closing your eyes after staring at the image.
The original version of the video is approximately one minute long and does not contain any screamer. However, a modified version titled "Stare at the Dot on His Nose" was uploaded by Jacob Laggard in 2018. The thumbnail features a screencap of Thomas' shocked face from the popular children's show 'Thomas and Friends' on Wiseman's nose. After 30 seconds, a picture of a dog appears, followed by a loud scream and special effects.
