Due to its shocking nature of this image, they are often used as a bait and switch to trick people to not search this particular image, as part of DoNotGoogle meme, According to Google Analytics, it has been spreading around the internet since 2003.[2]
In January 16th, 2004, an Urban Dictonary user Bubby submitted an entry about the image, telling users to not search up, he also describes the image as "the most horrifying image of a disease anybody has ever seen". another Urban Dictionary user submitted an another entry for Harlequin Fetus, describing it as "the most severe form of congenital ichthyosis.", receiving over 500 likes.
