America's Funniest Home Videos is a comedy television series based on Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan a Japanese variety show. The show featured clips of submitted homemade videos from viewers. It was originally hosted by the stand-up comedian Bob Saget from 1989 to 1997, until it was passed on to other people, such as Tom Beregon, John Fugelsang, and others. In 2005, screamers started to appear on the show in the spotlight when it was hosted by Tom Bergeron. No such screamers have ever appeared again on the show since 2015, when Bergeron was no longer the host.
Tom Bergeron described screamers as "the invention of a new practical joke. For example, soon after the match was invented, some joker came up with the hot foot. After the invention of the door, someone invented the bucket of water over the door. So, of course, it makes sense that after the invention of e-mail, someone came up with this."
One of the earliest screamer pranks on AFV was that an email was sent to Bergeron, where it contain a picture of a kitchen room from What's Wrong With This Picture? while Bergeron himself tried to find what's wrong with it. Shortly after, a picture of an eyeless woman with fingers on her face appears with an echoing Homer Simpson scream. Tom Bergeron responds to the screamer: "Oh, that must be what these people saw." This screamer was also featured again in one of the episodes, possibly the earliest one, as an another reaction video of the screamer. Other reaction videos to screamers like this were also featured in the show.
The Maze has been featured in various television medias, including America's Funniest Home Videos, where it was featured twice.
