The animation starts with an excerpt from the famous Christmas song [[wikipedia:Jingle Bells|''Jingle Bells'']] playing forward. Following the first extract, the same song was played backward, and a color-inverted [[GIF]] of Daniel Fowler, the author, making a weird face flashes with a high-pitched, hilarious-sounding scream about three-quarters of the way through the excerpt.
The flash animation starts with a slideshow of images of the late [[wikipedia:Pope Benedict XVI|Pope Benedict XVI]] along with religious quotes displayed, alongside a choral hymn that plays very quietly, and softly, after around thirty seconds, until Pope transforms into [[wikipedia:Palpatine|Emperor "Sheev" Palpatine]] from the ''[[wikipedia:Star Wars|Star Wars]]'' franchise, accompanied by an extremely loud scream, as Pope Benedict's face disappears.

The Pope's Blessing was a Flash screamer animation made by Liquid Generation that was released in 2005. The screamer was taken down along with the entire Liquid Generation website in 2016.
