3 Guys 1 Hammer, or known as Three Guys One Hammer, is an unofficial nickname that refers to a murder video of a man being brutally beaten by a hammer, which took place in the forest on July 14, 2007. The video of which belongs to the Ukrainian group, known as "Dnepropetrovsk maniacs", a group of three serial killers who were allegedly responsible for the murders that happened in Dnipro from June to July 2007. The group had recorded many videos of their murders, with one of the videos (this one) being leaked to the internet on December 4, 2008. The victim in the video was later identified as Sergei Yatzenko, a 48-year-old man who had a "recent bout of cancer." Due to the video having the most disturbing nature possible, it has made a few reaction videos, usually obtaining 400,000 views at that time.

Background

However, the original video is of an unedited version unlike the one that was publicly posted to the internet. The original is recorded in a mobile phone video by one of the members, and filmmakers managed to get it from an anonymous source; it first shows Sayenko (the one recording) and Suprunyuk standing on a wooded roadside discussing what they were going to do and waiting for someone to murder, which was basically their plan in most of their murders. Suprunyuk can also be seen holding a hammer in a plastic bag, which is to prevent anything suspicious. After 20 minutes into the scene, Sergei Yatzenko was captured by Suprunyuk with his binoculars, riding a Dnepr motorcycle to arrive on to his grandson's home in a mid-aftertoon of July 12, 2007. The two then knocked him out on the ground and destroyed his vehicle before the murder scene took place.

Victim

Sergie Yatzenko was the victim identified in the incident. He is a 48-year-old man who had a wife named Ludmilla and had two sons and a grandson. Sergie took part in small construction tasks, building tasks, repairing cars, weaving baskets, driving deliveries with his Dnepr motorcycle, and making meals for his family. He was unhappy that he was unable to continue studying after he developed a cancerous tumour in his throat, which made him unable to speak any words but whisper a few at a time. He was able to get it back again, but it sadly happened on the day of the murder incident.
