His mother dropped out of high school at grade 9 and later met Magnotta's father when he was 10th grade. His father is a factory worker who suffers from schizophrenia since 1994 and his mother is a writer and a germaphobe. Magnotta and his little brother were homeschooled by his mother while the father is at work. The mother sometimes lock her children out of the car or out of the house and once put their pet rabbits outside in the winter to freeze to death as she "wanted to total control over them". Magnotta was mostly raised by his grandmother, Phyllis, who felt "worried about him hearing things, speaking loudly and feeling scared" for most of the time. His grandmother took him to psychiatrist in around 1999. Magnotta's parents and brother were then jealous to his close relationship with his grandmother. During that time, Magnotta was called a "faggot" by two of his relatives in his grandmother's home due to his addictions with barbies and wanting to be a girl; and was picked on by his little brother, Conrad.

==Early Career==
Around 2002 or 2003, Newman begins stripping at Remingtons, a nightclub in Toronto. By 2003, he has appeared in his first two pornography films, both as a straight man turned gay. The following year, he appears in at least two other pornographic films, including one where he appears as Jimmy – a name he would also adopt while working as a male escort. Newman continues to appear in low-level porn films. He also appears in Fab Magazine, a gay bi-weekly in Toronto, on the "Fab Boy" page as "Jimmy." There, he describes himself as a "22-year-old soccer fan" born in Russia and living in Toronto who hopes to become a vice or homicide police officer.

Throughout 2007, Magnotta continues his attempts to make a name for himself. In the summer, he auditions for the reality show Cover Guy, telling the judges, "Some people say I am devastatingly good-looking." The judges reject him. In February of 2008, he also tries out for the reality show Plastic Makes Perfect. "I've had my nose done. I've had two hair transplants," he tells them. "And I'm planning on having muscle implants in my pecs and my arms."
Magnotta had no relationship with his brother Conrad. According to him, his brother was a "bad alcoholic" who was often arrested for drinking and driving, and he stood up for him when students teased him for looking "like a girl" at elementary, and being homophobic whenever he helped him in situation. Magnotta's sister Melissa later confirmed that Conrad had disclosed Magnotta's homosexuality "without his permission". From there, Magnotta became aware of having a relationship with his brother.
==Illegal activities==
Newman catches the attention of the Toronto Police after he befriends a 21-year-old woman with the mental capacity of a child eight to 12 years of age, convinces her to apply for credit cards and then racks up $10,000 in unpaid bills. He is charged with fraud. Initially, police allege he sexually assaulted the woman and videotaped it, but the Crown drops the charge before the case goes to trial. Newman's lawyer at the time, Peter Scully, now says that the decision changed the course of Newman's life "immeasurably, with huge ramifications to our society eventually."

June 2005: Newman pleads guilty and is convicted of four fraud charges. Before sentencing, Newman's lawyer shows the court a medical report revealing his client has "significant psychiatric issues." In handing down the sentence, Madam Justice Lauren Marshall issues a stern warning: "You have a medical problem and you need to always take medication. If you do not, your life is going to get messed up." Newman is given a nine-month community-service sentence and 12 months of probation.
At age 16, Magnotta went to live with his grandmother, Phyllis,<ref name="factsninja" /> who felt "worried about him hearing things, speaking loudly, and feeling scared" most of the time. The reason he is living with his grandmother is to escape from the psychological abuse of his mother's boyfriend. His grandmother took him to a psychiatrist in around 1999 after having concerns about him. Magnotta came to feel that his grandmother was a mother figure to him, as she had raised him correctly. She often dressed him in clothes, going everywhere with him, and slept with him when he was younger.

March 2007: Magnotta files for bankruptcy, listing the cause as "illness, lack of employment and insufficient income to pay off debts." He claims that he had to pay $200 each month in expenses relating to an unspecified medical condition. Magnotta continues to try to garner attention online, posting comments about himself to create rumours and then using other profiles to deny them. Twice this year, he loses battles with Wikipedia to keep a page up about himself. He also posts an online escort ad under the alias Jimmy. One client posts an unflattering review describing him as cold and remote.
When asked if he had any sexual abuse in his childhood, Msgnotta was unsure about it. Magnotta allegedly admitted that he had engaged in inappropriate acts with his uncle, but he couldn't remember how old he was at the time. He once remembered his uncle being arrested for molesting boys once. He had also done sexual acts with his brother, where they played each other naked at age 5 or 6 years old. When they turned 12 or 13-years-old. He and his brother would show their micro-dicks and watch each other masturbate.

====Attending elementary & high school====

Magnotta entered sixth grade at the age of ten or eleven, and had the ability to read and write at one point. He was heavily bullied by his classmates, who called him "infant" and laughed at his clothes (as Magnota's parents didn't have enough money to buy clothes for him in Valeo Village). Magnotta will try to play cute by giving them a piece of gum to stop them. But instead, the students were still bullying him. Even class monitors would dismiss him whenever he faced this situation. Although he had been bullied at school in the past, he somehow managed to connect with three other students with special needs. Initially, Magnotta was placed in special education classes when he first attended school due to his inability to practice math and reading. His mother also wanted to attend, but was dismissed because the school thought she was "intrustive."

However, Magnotta was completely unaware and tried to hide from the library at lunch, believing that everyone still hated him. As he got older, he stopped being afraid of communication and being shy. That happened when he started hanging out with students who were troublemakers. He had lower grades by the time he moved to regular schools and was in for most of the time. Sometimes, when he was not permitted by his mother to socialize with friends after school, Magnotta would skip school. He continued his education until he dropped out of grade 11, when he was around 17-years-old, due to his mental health. Magnotta said that he was not "feeling well mentally." I had poor concentration. I was feeling sick and hearing things. "
Early in 2006, Newman meets Barbie, a transgendered woman, and they begin dating. "He said he wanted to be famous one day," Barbie told the fifth estate in a recent interview. She recalls his apartment looking like a shrine dedicated to himself. "He would always beg me to take pictures of him," she says. In April, several months after meeting Newman, Barbie breaks up with him.

At the time, he became interested in Marilyn Monroe after discovering a book in the library about her that Magnotta believed they had so much in common. Magnotta also thought that cosmetic surgery as Monroe did so would help forget the past and incite people like him. He also wrote a book review about her as well as Ava Gardner and Sharon Stone, the actors of his favorite film, Basic Instinct.<ref>https://www.scribd.com/document/246900421/Psychiatric-assessment-of-Magnotta</ref>

====Enrolled at Tyark College and University of Toronto====
Mr. Magnotta attended Thompson Internet College when he was about 19 years old, trying to finish his high school degree. He lost interest after about four months. In 2007, he enrolled in an academic bridging program at the University of Toronto but dropped out after two weeks because he couldn't "understand any of it." He attempted to enroll in a real estate agent training program in 2010, but was denied admission because he lacked a grade 12 equivalency, "couldn't do makeup classes," and "couldn't concentrate."

The Toronto Sun publishes a story by reporter Joe Warmington about how Magnotta had dropped by the newspaper's headquarters to deny online rumours he was dating notorious schoolgirl killer Karla Homolka. The rumours were likely started by Magnotta himself. In later years, a tribute video to Homolka was created by a Luka Magnotta alias account on YouTube; all the videos uploaded/favourited are Magnotta- or Homolka-related.
==Timeline of Magnotta's carrer==
===Occupational carrer===
Magnotta initially worked in a sandwich restaurant, but because of his complaints about making sandwiches, it only lasted 2 months. His mental illness made it difficult for him to work, including often staying up late, and pressure caused him to resign many times. Magnotta, then 18, worked in a grocery store for less than a month before being fired. He worked in a Great Canadian Bagel restaurant until he resigned again because he was too stressed to continue working. Magnotta also said that due to mental health issues, he “enjoyed benefits at the age of 18 or 19 and then started receiving payments from the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)”. Magnotta moved to several cities in his 20s, moved to New York City in 2008, and returned to Toronto in 2010.
===Prostitution career===
====Webcams & Stripping====
In his early twenties, Magnotta began to work in the sex trade. From that moment on, he believed he was bisexual. While living in public housing, Magnotta felt motivated and sometimes had "financial difficulties". He also had to steal food sometimes, but was ashamed of it. Magnotta had been brought to blackboards by his social worker because he "couldn't make ends meet". Magnotta started on webcams where he showed himself undressing in front of the camera, but didn't continue as much because there were too many "crazy people". He then started working as a stripper in the gay club "Remmington" in Toronto, but was initially afraid to go on stage. Magnotta also made a fellatio against the owner of the club and got drinks and a job in return. At the time, Magnotta didn't think he was good at it, and negatively likened himself to other strippers who were more muscular than him. He stopped working at the club after two months, because he was earning too much money and had to pay everyone there were in. Another stripper in his club suggested that he should start escorting because he felt uncomfortable with the drug addicts in the club, so he did and moved on.
====Escorting & Success====
As told by the stripper, Magnotta had been doing escorts privately with guys who he met at clubs, and had been going "five to six clients" per day from the start, continuing until the end of May 2012. At that time, he came into a connection with an escorting agent, who told Magnotta that he was his "best one." Magnotta stated that he did not feel he was abusive to him all the time and that they were even "friends" after all. Magnotta said he had appeared young, having a good stamina, and did all what the agent asked him to.

Magnotta meets a 70-year-old man in Toronto who ends up becoming his travel companion. Together, they visit Russia, Italy and France. Henry, a fake name used to protect his identity, told the fifth estate they met at the Pickle Barrel restaurant located near Toronto's Yonge and Eglinton intersection. "He walked as if he was on a stage or as if he was on a ramp for modeling clothes," said Henry.
Magnotta made about "$1000 to $2000" per week and his agent would take a "20% cut of his earnings". He used his earnings as an escort to help his grandmother because she was living on a small pension. He gave her 100 dollars and once gave her 1000 dollars, but she did not want the money and returned it back to him; sometimes she would say that she did need the money and Magnotta would give it to her anyway. Besides his grandmother, Magnotta would also use his earnings to help his family. Magnotta once took his mother with him to the Bahamas in 2005, which is her first ever vacation. Rich clients would also even offer Magnotta some drugs and alcohol, but he often refused and accepted at some time. Over the course of having this much money, Magnotta felt dirty, took more of prescription pills, felt suicidal, and often had STDs. He also added that he was exposed to dangerous people, and sometimes raped (see below text). His clients took him to vacation so he could feel comfortable.
==Internet activity==
In 2010, Magnotta's online postings get progressively darker. On his Facebook page, he posts a link to a video called, 3 guys 1 hammer that shows a man being viciously beaten to death. The video was not by Magnotta. The myth about Magnotta's relationship with killer Homolka grows. In one posting about Magnotta and Homolka, the user — likely Magnotta — writes, "Luka is unable to live unless there is chaos in his life, it makes him feel as though he matters."
===Cat-killing videos===
:''Further Information: [[1 Boy 2 Kittens]]''
Shortly before Christmas, a video called 1 guy – 2 kittens started circulating on discussion boards. Posted on Dec. 21, the video depicts an unidentified man, whose face is concealed, placing two kittens in a sealed bag and then sucking out the air with a vacuum to suffocate them. Though the video is quickly removed from YouTube, animal activists learn of it.

Soon after, Ryan Boyle, a former U.S. soldier who uses the online name Save Kitty, forms a Facebook group called "Find the Vacuum Kitten Killer for Great Justice." About 4,000 people sign up. "These were not people who were doing it for money," said Boyle, referring to the online activists. "They all had the same thing in mind: we want to catch this guy." The group believes Magnotta joined the group under an alias, based on certain users' online patterns of behaviour. When the group goes astray in its search for the kitten killer, they believe that Magnotta himself anonymously went on a message board frequented by the group and posted pictures from the video with the face no longer blurred.
Magnotta was once raped and threatened by one of his clients. He sought out for help from activists and agencies for sex workers. They helped him with his clients who to call the police if he was raped. Later, The client was then arrested when he contacted the SVU. Magnotta also recalled getting a little help from a Paris police force after filing a complaint about a client who attacked and robbed him.

Rescue Ink, an animal protection group, posts a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the Vacuum Kitten Killer (VKK). "It's a gateway crime, animal abuse," Joe Panz, a founding member of the group, told the fifth estate. "Once somebody starts to open that door, that's when things start to get really dangerous."
==Relationship==
Magnotta can't date, as he wasn't sure enough to have his first serious relationship after most of them were "just for sex". His first "serious" relationship was with a man named Ron, due to Magnotta's emotional connections. In the course of his first relationship, Ron would bring him flowers and often talk on the phone together ahead of time. His second relationship was Natter, who he met through his agent at a later date. Natter and Magnotta made calls together for escorting, but Natter had not come out of the closet at that time. Previously, his agent said that Ron had been using him, but although Ron may have loved him some, Magnotta admitted that he loved Ron more than his second relationship.

A year after the original kitten-killing videos appear online, more videos are posted. A man wearing a Santa hat is shown feeding a live kitten to a python. In another, a kitten is duct taped to a broom handle then drowned in a bathtub. "He was basically saying, 'Look, I've done it again. You're not going to catch me,'" said AB Project member John Green.
Later on, Magnotta had met an escort transgender woman named Barbie through Natter, when he was living at Toronto in 2006. Magnotta and Barbie have done sex together a few times, but he felt uncomfortable for most of the time as she has an addiction to cocaine and go to bars where he had stripped in the past. Barbie would laugh at him when he is unable to erect and would complain if he refused to have sex with her. Magnotta also wooed her to watch Basic Instinct 2, a sequel of his favorite film, where a man gets fatally stabbed with an icepick which later inspires his 2012 murder video [[1 Lunatic 1 Icepick]]. The relationship lasted four months.

After The Sun in London, U.K., publishes a story about the kitten killer, Magnotta turns up at their office to deny that he had killed a kitten. The paper has not asked about him and reporter Alex West describes the behaviour as "highly suspicious." West wrote, "But behind the denials it seemed he was getting some sort of bizarre pleasure out of the attention." Two days later, threatening emails are sent to the Sun's offices, believed to be from Magnotta. "Next time you hear from me it will be in a movie I am producing that will have some humans in it, not just pussies," the email says. The London police are notified but say it was outside their jurisdiction.

Early Life

Luka Magnotta was born Eric Clinton Kirk Newman[note 1][1][2] in Scarborough on July 24, 1982, where he was also raised.[3] He was born to Anna Yourkin and Donald Newman as one of the eldest of three kids.[3] Magnotta were born in the father's basement, including his brother Conrad and sister Melissa.[1] Magnotta's parents later bought a home in Bethany, Ontario, where they lived and raised their children there.[2][1]

His mother dropped out of high school at grade 9 and later met Magnotta's father when he was 10th grade. His father is a soap factory worker of Lever Brothers who has suffered from schizophrenia[3] since 1994.[1][2] Magnotta stated that his father is now working as an English teacher at a university with a Russian wife.[1] His mother is a writer who is obsessed with cleanliness and often wears surgical masks. Magnotta stated that both had health and drinking problems. Magnotta and his little brother were homeschooled by their mother while their father was at work for support, until the grandparents insisted they be enrolled in school. The mother sometimes would lock her children out of the car or out of the house and leaves their pet rabbits outside in the winter to freeze to death[3] as she "wanted total control over them."[1] Similarly, Magnotta had fears of his mother having "big red nails" and also described her tying his brother in a chair in his room "when he was bad."

His father was an abusive parent before the separation, but was never abusive to Magnotta. According to Magnotta, he stated that his father was quiet while drinking and loved playing video games with him. However, his mother rumored that her father threatened to kill her and would watch her with binoculars, which Magnotta did not want to believe. His father smoked and slept excessively. His father, at one point, was arrested and fired from his job for drinking at work. The family then had to moved into grandparent's home after their house was lost. Right after, his parents separated[3] when Magnotta was at age 9 or 10. His mother moved on with her children to a new apartment, along with her new abusive boyfriend from Toronto, Leo.[1]

After graduating from elementary, Magnotta attended I.E. Weldon Secondary School, a high school located a few blocks away from his home.

Magnotta entered sixth grade at the age of ten or eleven, and had the ability to read and write at one point. Webcams & Stripping

In his early twenties, Magnotta began to work in the sex trade. From that moment on, he believed he was bisexual.

Magnotta also wooed her to watch Basic Instinct 2, a sequel of his favorite film, where a man gets fatally stabbed with an icepick which later inspires his 2012 murder video 1 Lunatic 1 Icepick. The relationship lasted four months.
