ChechClear is a Russian beheading video filmed by Chechen insurgents during the First Chechen War in 1996. The footage was obtained by Russian authorities and sold to Russian media in September 1999, then uploaded to several shock sites in the early 2000's. The original file name of the video was chechclear.asf, and the meaning behind the name "ChechClear" is not fully known.[1]
Content
The footage has been downloaded and posted onto several different websites many times. There are multiple versions of this video, including some without color or without audio. The original version is around 16-20 seconds long, and begins with a young Russian soldier lying sideways on the ground, with a Chechen insurgent stepping on his head with black war boots. The insurgent stabs the soldier in the neck with a knife and quickly beheads him. The video ends with the now dead and decapitated Russian soldier lying in a growing pool of blood from his neck.
Despite some sources claiming to know to identities of the victim and the executioner, all men in the video remain unknown.
This clip is part of a longer, five minute version that contains clips of the insurgent beating, shooting, and humiliating the soldier before beheading him. However, this tape is now lost.[2]
