There are two ways to permalink a video or anything else on the wiki. First is through IPFS (highly recommended) and the other is with PreserveTube (for YouTube videos). This page provides instructions for both.

Because regular IPFS uploads don't function reliably, pinata.cloud is used instead since it offers free storage and straightforward file uploads.

#1: Copy the link to the video

borderless

Self explanatory; simply copy the link to the video you want to archive.

#2: Download the video

borderless

Paste the video URL into loader.to (or any other working video downloader) and download the video in the highest resolution possible. Loader.to is the best for this since it allows you to download the video in the highest resolution and is easy to use (it is recommended to use an adblocker for this site).

#3: Go to pinata.cloud

borderless

Visit pinata.cloud in order to upload your file. Make sure to log in or create a new account if you haven't already.

#4: Upload the file

borderless

Self-explanatory; leave the default settings unchanged and select Upload.

#5: Copy the CID

borderless

Copy the content identifier (CID) of your file by pressing the copy button under the "CID" label (shown in the image above).

#6: Paste your CID into the article (using the IPFS template)

borderless

Add the following template:
{{IPFS|CID}}
to the article and replace "CID" with the content identifier that you copied.

That's how to permalink using IPFS. Good luck!

PreserveTube can be used as an alternative if you prefer not to download YouTube videos. However, it could be discontinued at any time and should not be considered fully reliable.

#1: Copy the link to the video

borderless

Self explanatory; simply copy the link to the video you want to archive.

#2: Go to preservetube.com and paste your YouTube link

borderless

Paste the video URL into the field labeled "Archive a Youtube video", then press save. Make sure to add https:// next to your link or else the message "Websocket connection was closed: (1000)" may appear.

#3: Copy the saved link

borderless

Once the page redirects to something like this, the process is complete. Copy the link in your browser and paste it into the article.

That's how to permalink a video with PreserveTube.
