Maze Tunnel Illusion is a screamer video uploaded to YouTube by a user named OpticalNightmares on October 3rd, 2008. It disguises itself as a relaxing visual illusion designed to trick the viewer’s eyes with a spinning tunnel animation.
The video begins with a calm, ambient soundtrack playing over a slowly rotating tunnel of spiraling colors. On-screen text instructs the viewer to "stare directly into the center" and "not to look away" for 30 seconds in order to "experience true optical hypnosis." At around the 27-second mark, as the music fades slightly, a loud, distorted scream erupts while a gruesome close-up image of a decayed corpse with bloodshot eyes suddenly flashes on the screen. The scare lasts for about 3 seconds before the video abruptly cuts to black.
