California.mp4 is a shock video, which shows a picture of Leonardo Alexander Caripe Brito's bloodied face deepfaked into singing California Gurls by Katy Perry. The video was sent in an email to approximately 187 recipients from a mailing list on October 31, 2022, from a Gmail account named after the video's subject.
The email, simply titled "Hello.", said, "My name is Leonardo Alexander Caripe Brito. This is what I look like on video." Attached below the email is a video named California.mp4. Since Gmail has a problem previewing the video, it needed to be downloaded in order to view it. When someone replies to the email, a bot would reply with a screenshot of the video.[1]
Response
One of the recipients allegedly got the Gmail account's IP address, email address, and phone numbers. However, according to the creator of the post, it was proven to be false.[1]
