The story takes place after Sonic's battle with Silver Sonic, during which he fails to collect all the Chaos emeralds needed to save his friend [[wikipedia:Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog)|Tails]]. [[wikipedia:Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]], determined to save Tails, decides to collect the emeralds by himself and heads towards [http://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/South_Island South Island]. However, [[wikipedia:Robotnik|Robotnik]], his arch-nemesis, approaches Sonic with a deal. If Sonic succeeds in collecting all the emeralds, Robotnik will open a gate to "a lost paradise", allowing Sonic to save Tails. However, if Sonic fails, Robotnik will keep Tails captive and kill him. Despite the high stakes, Sonic chooses to run away. As Doomsday draws near, it seems like there is no way for Sonic to escape his fate, and the narrator bids farewell to Tails, unsure of what lies ahead.
