A similar version of this application exists, called [[Madoka.exe]]. Both programs seem to do the same things and launched in the same period, but they have a different screamer picture, in addition, the only thing the application will do is display a picture of an eyeless ghostly Japanese woman in fullscreen, accompanied by the same scream, before disappearing. Some Chinese text is then displayed in the upper-left corner of the screen, Madoka.exe is a variant of Win32/FlaGhost Malware, there are no download links to the application

hikaru.exe, or known as Sadako virus in Japan, was a japanese screamer joke application. It is a variant of the Win32.Joke_Ghost joke program.

If the user runs it, it doesn't seem to do anything, however it silently becomes present in the operating computer's memory and triggers a payload at random times which shows a full-screen picture of a ghost girl, similar but not the same as McDonalds.exe, with a scream sound effect. It quickly spread over the Internet in Japan in the early 2000s. However, it didn't become as popular as its cousin. Some have complained that even when restarting the computer, the application will still continue its usual behavior.
