California.mp4 was a shock video, which showed a picture of Leonardo Alexander Caripe Brito's bloodied face deepfaked into singing California Gurls by Katy Perry with Wombo. The video was sent in an email to approximately 187 recipients from a mailing list on October 31, 2022, from a Gmail account named after the video's subject.
The email, simply titled "Hello.", said, "My name is Leonardo Alexander Caripe Brito. This is what I look like on video." Attached below the email is a video named California.mp4. Since Gmail had a problem previewing the video, it needed to be downloaded in order to view it. When someone replies to the email, the Gmail account automatically replies with a screenshot of the video.[1]
There was a similar email titled "Hello!" which said "My name is Leonardo. I exist." The video "leonardo.mp4" showed a part of El Patron where it zooms into Leonardo's dead body.
Response
One of the recipients allegedly got the Gmail account's IP address, email address, and phone numbers of someone named Jacob but it was random information because they thought it was a scammer and so they posted that information.
