California.mp4 is a shock video showing a picture of Leonardo Alexander Caripe Brito's bloodied face deepfaked into singing California Gurls. The video was sent in an email to approximately 187 recipients on October 31, 2022, from a Gmail account named after the video's subject.
The email, simply titled "Hello.", said, "My name is Leonardo Alexander Caripe Brito. This is what I look like on video." Attached below the email is a video named California.mp4. Since Gmail has a problem previewing the video, it needed to be downloaded in order to view it.
When someone replies to the email, a bot would send a screenshot of the video.[1]
