1 Lunatic 1 Icepick was a 11-minute video depicting a man being repeatedly stabbed by another man with an icepick. The incident happened to have taken place in the apartment from Montreal, Canada, and the victim was identified to be an Asian man Jun Lin and the killer to be known as Luka Magnotta, a former porn-star. The perpetrator had fled to Canada after the video depicting the murder was uploaded to Bestgore; then later launching an international manhunt to find who the culprit was. Magnotta was finally arrested at an internet cafe in Berlin and charged on December 23, 2014, with one count of first-degree murder.

Victim

Jun Lin (林俊) also known as Justin and Patrick (December 30, 1978 – May 24/25, 2012), was a 33-year-old Canadian student born on December 30, 1978 on Wuhan, China. Lin was enrolled as an undergraduate student at Concordia University, for engineering and computer science. Media outlets have mentioned that Lin had also been studying in Montreal since 2011, previously attending to Tyark College. One of the classmates, Alexandra Afanase, had stated that "he was in computers, and he was looking for love." After passing his way through school, Lin worked at a corner store as a store clerk in Pointe-Saint-Charles, located in the city of Montreal, where his reputation of being "trustworthy and reliable" came into being. On May 1, 2012, he moved into Griffintown-area apartment with a roommate.

Luka Magnotta planned the killing of Jun Lin for six months, according to Reuters. An alleged email from Magnotta to a journalist confirmed that the murder was "planned and deliberate." On March 3, Magnotta wrote a blog post on the website blogpost.ca titled "Necrophiliac Serial Killer Luka Magnotta," in which he expressed a fetish for having sex with a mummified corpse of a young man. From April to May, Magnotta uploaded several videos to YouTube foreshadowing his killing, including one that showed him holding an ice pick (later revealed to be a screwdriver) in front of a Casablanca poster while a 1987 New Order song played. Multiple accounts, obviously created by Magnotta, also started a thread on several blog posts in an attempt to find out who the killer was, accompanied by an image. On May 24, 2012, Magnotta posted an ad on Craigslist asking for a "personal film," which Jun Lin volunteered for, assuming it was not what it turned out to be. They met at the Decarie Boulevard late in the evening before Lin was murdered and decapitated in the room of Magnotta's apartment. The video was uploaded to the site Bestgore that night, although some sources claim it was first uploaded to another site called theYNC. A few days later, the video prompted an attorney from Montana to alert police, but it was quickly dismissed as a fake. Later, police were alerted to Jun Lin's appearance, as well as several residents of the apartment building complaining of a foul smell. Eventually, the police discovered the suitcase containing several of Lin's body parts, and citizens alerted them to the video.

Content

The video begins with Jun Lin tied into a bed frame while being naked. This cuts into another part where he stabbed Jun Lin repeatedly, directly to the stomach. Magnotta then begins to show the body to the viewer, showing the holes made from the "stabs" and the head that has already had its throat slit, possibly knowing that he had already died before being stabbed. From here, he tried to cut= off his left leg and left arm with a knife, before cutting off the flesh of his body and forcing a dark puppy to chew it. Magnotta performs a necrophilic act on the corpse, such as letting his arm masturbate himself and humping the corpse. Next, Magnotta sodomizes the bottle up the asshole. The final scene depicts Magnotta using Lin's severe arm to masturbate himself again.

The video used the 1987 song "True Faith" as the background music over the scene. This shock video is a reference to the film "American Psycho", where it has the plot of a blindfolded man getting killed with an icepick and knife; it also uses the same music used in the video. The movie's name inspired Luka's alias "Canadian Psycho".

Additionally, some people also think that it's "an homage to Basic Instinct", as the video references to the first murder-sex scene of the movie, where it depicts a man tied to a bed frame with a white silk scarf before being strangled by the movie's antogonist, Catherine Tramell. The police who watched the video also "realize that it’s shot almost identical to the ice pick murder scene". The antagonist also inspired Magnotta's alias, "Kirk Tramell". However, there are many instances that Magnotta used the "Catherine Tramell" name in some parts, such as choosing "Catherine" as his computer login.

Investigation, Timeline, and Manhunt

The murder of Jun Lin by Luka Magnotta occurred on May 24, 2012, in Montreal, Canada. On the night before the murder, Magnotta met Lin at a metro station, after Lin responded to Magnotta's Craigslist ad offering kinky sex and bondage. Magnotta was seen on surveillance cameras holding the door open for Lin before entering the apartment with him. The last witness from the security cameras was Magnotta leaving the room while wearing Lin Jun's shirt, purportedly because his own T-shirt was covered in blood. Magnotta then spent several hours disposing of the evidence and booked a round-trip plane ticket to Paris, scheduled to leave the following evening, during which he stored Lin's torso in his suitcase.

The crime came to light when a janitor, Mike Nadeau, discovered Lin's headless and limbless corpse in a locked suitcase in the garbage on May 25, 2012. The torso was also found inside the suitcase a few days later. The police were called, and after searching the scene, they confirmed that the body parts belonged to Jun Lin. The police discovered that some of the items used in the murder were piled in black plastic bags and thrown in the trash. Other miscellaneous items, including a dead black puppy depicted in the video, a Casablanca poster, a wine bottle, and some of Jun Lin's body parts, were also wrapped in several garbage bags. Blood stains were found on the bed mattress, refrigerator, floor, and the bathroom sink, implying that Magnotta had attempted to hide the body and materials in various places.

Several packages containing body parts were also sent to political party headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. A blood-stained package containing a left foot was delivered to the Conservative Party of Canada on May 29, 2012. Another package containing a left hand was delivered to the Liberal Party headquarters a few hours later. The police later confirmed that two more packages containing a right hand and right foot were distributed to two separate schools. The fourth package was sent to the Conservative Party headquarters, containing a left foot and a note saying that all six body parts had been sent in the mail and that the perpetrator would kill again. The head was later found in a small edge of Angrignon Park on July 1, a few blocks away from Magnotta's apartment.

All of the body parts were eventually recovered, and DNA samples from Jun Lin's family confirmed that the body parts belonged to him. Magnotta was arrested in Berlin a few days after the murder by a friend who had seen a newspaper article about him. Magnotta was charged with first-degree murder, and his trial began in September 2014. Magnotta pleaded not guilty, but on December 23, 2014, he was found guilty of all charges and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Perpetrator

Eric Clinton Kirk Newman now known as Luka Rocco Magnotta is the perpetrator of the incident. He was born on July 24, 1982, to parents Anna Yourkin and Donald Newman as one of the first three children. His father suffers from schizophrenia and his mother is a "true-crime-enthusiast" and a co-writer. His mother impregnated at age 16 and his father was furious, secretly moving into the father's parents basement. Magnotta grew up in the Peterborough and was homeschooled by his parents. Prior to 1 Lunatic 1 Icepick, Luka Magnotta was allegedly behind 1 Boy 2 Kittens and Bath time lol.
