When we pranked our friends back in the day, screamers were very effective, it scared or embarassed them.

I think that now, seeing how advanced Internet is, with the arrival of shock sites such as DocumentingReality and LiveLeak, the existence of Last Measure and Encyclopedia Dramatica, there is new material to use. With the amount of horror movies and games releasing every year, jumpscares become ineffective, we become desensitivized to the scare factor.

Screamers spark little reaction/response like: "haha you got me" or "shit you scared me" While disturbing content lead to more outrage and responses, even worse when the content is not allowed if you refer to the website's rules.

Shock sites are the new screamers.

And I am desensitivized.
