'''Comics that will make you think(EPIC FAIL)''' is a [[screamer]] project made by benpearson50 on April 27, 2011.

The animation starts with a stick figure saying, "Now I'm going to show you comics that will make you think!" in the creator's voice. It then proceeds to show a comic of Naruto and Sasuke. After a few seconds, a picture of a drawn Noob figure from Roblox screaming "H3lp M3H IM STUCK!!!!" is shown. However, it then abruptly changes to a picture of the same screaming woman from Katies Scary Face (which is also the project's thumbnail, spoiling the fact that it is a screamer), accompanied by the creator's scream. The picture then disappears, and the same stick figure from before appears again, apologizing to the viewer and walking away, at which point the same screamer appears again, albeit without any sound.
<b>A Day In The Life Of The Steel Legion</b> was a [[screamer]] [[video]] uploaded to [[YouTube]] on November 25th, 2006 by VenerableDread.

A good chunk of this video is footage of the game <i>[[wikipedia: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War|Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War]]</i> intercut with text stating a possible story for the scenarios. All seems fine and good until the ending, where text appears: "THE END! Now go home, or..." on a yellow background. After this, an image of a giant spider in a room (later used in [[Saddam Hussein Execution]]) appears, flashing with a loud version of the scream from the [[K-fee commercials]]. The video ends with "Now it's THE END. Happy now?"

The video was later deleted due to VenerableDread's account being terminated, and was lost for quite some time, but it was later reuploaded by [[Special:Contributions/LetycjuszS|LetycjuszS]] on the Screamercord.
{{Quote|I made this game in October of '04 for Halloween and sent it to a few of my friends in an email. About 5 months later, someone had sent the same email back to my mother! It had turned into a viral email joke. '''The Maze™''', also known as the '''Scary Maze Game''' (or originally '''The Maze Game v1.0'''<ref>tcrf.net/The_Maze</ref>), was a Flash [[screamer]] created in October 2004 by game developer and programmer [[Jeremy Winterrowd]], originally posted to his personal website "[[Winterrowd.com]]".

This Flash prank disguises itself as a simple maze game, in which the player must use their mouse cursor to guide a small dot through the maze. At the start screen, a note informs the player that the objective of the game is to pass through all four levels, and the player cannot touch the walls; however, the game consists of only three levels. The game also explains that it's best with the volume on, but there's no sound in any part of the game.

Since this infamous Flash game debuted in 2004, it has become a popular internet screamer. It has inspired a variety of different maze screamers to be made over the years.

==Gameplay==
The first two levels are easy to complete. But as the third level is reached, the walls begin to shrink and have sharp turns, making it difficult to avoid touching them. This usually makes the player concentrate on the screen. Then, near the first curve to the left of the maze sharp part (The game also knows if the player is cheating; if they use right-click), a close-up image of [[Regan MacNeil]] (the possessed character portrayed by [[wikipedia:Linda Blair|Linda Blair]]) from the 1973 supernatural horror film ''[[wikipedia:The Exorcist|The Exorcist]]'' pops up along with a loud, distorted scream that plays twice, scaring the player.

The game was uploaded to Jeremy's now-defunct personal website, Winterrowd.com, in 2005. The original version of the game had some slight differences in colors, where orange/yellow with alternative text was used instead of cyan. There's an alternative version of the game that is used in the comedy television series ''[[America's Funniest Home Videos]]'', where Regan at the end is replaced with the one from [[What's Wrong?]],<ref>youtu.be/kZKZa9bwhnA?t=30</ref> due to concerns regarding copyrighted content.

== Reactions ==
{{Main|Reaction videos}}
[[File:Reaction.png|thumb|left|220x220px|Justice playing The Maze, one of the famous screamers.]]
Many people have posted videos of other people reacting to the game. The first [https://odysee.com/@screamreuploads:e/chad-pranks-his-stepson-justice:2 reaction video] on YouTube was uploaded by OUTLAW713, on February 21, 2006.<ref>http://web.archive.org/web/20070306004420/https://youtube.com/watch?v=Bvv7MBZk_f4</ref> In the [[reaction video]], a young kid, ''Justice'', is playing the maze. Then, he is surprised by the screamer. Shocked, he starts screaming and repeatedly hitting the computer screen. He then runs to his stepdad, Chad, and starts crying. The original video and channel were terminated or taken down sometime in 2009; however, some reuploads had over 27 million views.
The most viewed Maze Game video was uploaded by YouTube user nalts and has accumulated over 43 million views as of October 2017. However, the video was removed due to the channel's termination.

===Level 4===
[[File:Level4.jpg|thumb|One of the supposed "Level 4"s.|right|200x200px]]
Even though only three levels exist in the game code, some videos circulated about a secret fourth level. On [[YouTube]], there are some fake videos of people supposedly successfully going through the 3rd level and finally entering the 4th level, instead of a screamer. The earliest "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXWsd5_qlpw tutorial]" on how to get to the 4th level was uploaded by the YouTube user SoccerMomDebbie on October 19, 2008.

Other videos of the mysterious level continued to circulate. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NedCSuGt0eg This video], which has more than 1.25 million views as of 2019 showed the cursor make a shortcut (which in practice would have killed the player) in level 3 unlocks a trigger to level 4 (pictured); once finishing the level, the game goes back to the main screen; text asks the viewer; "care to try a little bit faster this time?".

Outside of YouTube, users on Answers.com also asked about how to access the level; in response, users either replied in a fake way or told the asker that level 4 does not exist.<ref>https://www.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_get_to_level_4_in_the_scary_maze_game</ref>

The fake level 4 was confirmed to have been made in Adobe Photoshop and played using the Microsoft Paint eraser.

=== Parodies ===
''The Maze'' has been parodied on ''[[wikipedia:Saturday Night Live|Saturday Night Live]]'' skit "I Didn't Ask For This".<ref>youtube.com/watch?v=4CD0ZbvIyQE</ref> There is also a game called [[Save Justin Bieber]], created by Jeremy Winterrowd himself, which replaces some parts of the game with a picture of Justin Bieber instead of Regan, and the maze color is light purple instead of cyan.

In ''[[wikipedia:The Simpsons|The Simpsons]]'' episode "''[[wikipedia:Flanders' Ladder|Flanders' Ladder]]''" ([[wikipedia:The Simpsons (season 29)|Season 29]]) the opening segment has Bart Simpson prank his sister Lisa by having her play a game called "''Genius Maze''", which is a direct spoof of The Maze, however, in this spoof, the jumpscare happened very early on in the 2nd level and has a popup of a zombie, resembling Regan.<ref>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=502ZX1fAKzk</ref>''<nowiki/>''

A parody image of The Maze is one of the possible [[Wikipedia:404 error|404 error]] images given on [[Screamer Wiki]].

[[Jeremy Winterrowd]] released an [[AFV]] version of The Maze, which is vastly inspired from AFV's usage of [[What's Wrong With This Picture?]] [[screamer]] in their shows.
'''Sonic.exe''' is a [[creepypasta]] character and one of the notable examples of a creepypasta character. Sonic.exe had also inspired multiple .exe [[games]] including [[Uchakip]], [[Google.exe]], [[Hotel Mario 6]] and its unofficial sequel [[Sonic2.exe]].

==Character==
''Sonic.exe'' is a fictional character that originated from a creepypasta story in 2011. The story describes Sonic the Hedgehog turning into a demonic and murderous version of himself after being possessed by an evil entity. Sonic.exe's character design is mostly based on the popular video game character [[wikipedia:Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic the Hedgehog]], but with slight changes to create a more demonic and sinister appearance. In most depictions of ''Sonic.exe'', his body is Sonic's with black eyes, red pupils and blood coming out of them, and he has razor-sharp teeth and claws. He navigates the world, manipulating its code and using dark illusions to torment people. His shape-shifting skills allow him to assume Sonic's form. In contrast to Sonic the Hedgehog, ''Sonic.exe'' embodies traits of wrath, sadism, and cruelty. He takes pleasure in repeatedly eliminating lives, positioning himself as the embodiment of pure evil, and views humanity as his ultimate plaything. In some versions of the story, Sonic.exe is depicted as having a distorted, pixelated appearance, as if he is glitching out of the game.

==Synopsis==
The ''Sonic.exe'' [[creepypasta]] was originally written by JC-the-Hyena on Creepypasta Wiki on August 9th, 2011. The creator revealed that the idea originated from a photoshopped screenshot of Sonic the Hedgehog's loading screen. This manipulated image portrayed the character with eye wounds while still retaining his mocking smile.<ref>https://www.creepypasta.com/sonic-exe/</ref>

In this story, the author Tom shares an experience involving a potentially glitched or hacked Sonic game. It all starts when the author receives an unusual CD in the mail from their friend Kyle. The CD is labeled "SONIC.EXE" and it comes with a note urgently pleading with the author to destroy it to prevent "evil" from pursuing them. Despite that, the author decides to give the game a try. As they play, a series of strange and unsettling events begin to unfold. Navigating through the game as different characters—Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik—Tom encounters a sequence of unsettling occurrences. The game's world features dead animals, twisted-level designs, and glitchy gameplay, suggesting that something is seriously wrong. What's more, the characters' expressions seem to change from normal to fearful, as if they are breaking the fourth wall and trying to communicate directly with the player.

Suddenly, at one moment during the game, the computer shuts down unexpectedly, and the author is unable to restart it no matter what he tries. As the author struggles to remove the game from their computer, they encounter resistance as if the game has become stuck in the system. Eventually, Tom manages to restore power to the computer and is met with a whisper-like voice from behind. The voice urges him to "keep this interesting." Upon turning to investigate, he saw a sight of Sonic plushie sitting on their bed, its smile covered by bloodstains under its eyes.
'''Sonic.exe''' is a [[creepypasta]] [[game]] created by the game developer MY5TCrimson. The game starts with the main intro reminiscent of the classic 1991 ''[[wikipedia:Sega Genesis|Sega Genesis]]'' title, ''[[wikipedia:Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 video game)|Sonic the Hedgehog]]''. However, this intro is changed by a sudden shift in scenery. Sonic changes into a form of himself with pitch-black eyes and fiery red pupils. The game then cuts into a character selection screen, giving players the choice of three characters. Each character can be unlocked progressively in the order they're introduced.

===Tails route===
[[File:Tailssonicexe.png|thumb|left|150px|Tails in "HILL" area.]]
If [[wikipedia:Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog)|Tails]] is chosen, players start on Act 1 as Tails in the "HILL" area. The background features a reversed version of the music that would be used in Robotnik's level.<ref>Contrary to popular beliefs, the music is not the reversed version of the Green Hill Zone theme.</ref> The level mirrors the original [[wikipedia:Green Hill Zone|Green Hill Zone]], but now rendered as an empty space. Players can go left or right, though the left path offers no significant events. Proceeding forward reveals a gruesome scene—lifeless animal corpses hanging from trees, with their intestines gruesomely exposed. After encountering dead animals, the music abruptly stops. Soon after, Tails encounters Sonic with closed eyes. A cutscene unfolds as Tails approaches Sonic amidst increasing static, accompanied by eerie white noise. As Sonic's eyes open, the screen fades to black, and the text appears: "Hello, Do You Want To Play With Me?" This marks the beginning of a hide-and-seek level. Tails finds himself in a burning Angel Island Zone, with flames in the background. As players progress, a scene unfolds requiring them to outrun Sonic. Escaping proves inefficient, as ''Sonic.exe'' catches and kills Tails in a cutscene where Tails cries, accompanied by a scream from the 1988 film ''[[wikipedia:Slugs (1988 film)|Slugs]]''.

===Knuckles route===
With Tails' fate taken by ''Sonic.exe'', players assume control of [[wikipedia:Knuckles the Echidna|Knuckles]], who can punch by using the "X" key. The game shifts to "YOU CAN'T RUN", set in the [https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Scrap_Brain_Zone Scrap Brain Zone]. This echoes Tails' experience, with static effects and a blood-stained terrain. ''Sonic.exe'' would then appear in front of Knuckles, with the ominous message: "FOUND YOU." This triggers a battle against ''Sonic.exe'', who teleports behind Knuckles whenever approached. Despite Knuckles' efforts, a cutscene plays wherein Knuckles appears fatigued, and Sonic approaches behind him, ultimately ending his life.

===Robotnik route===
The game shifts to [[wikipedia:Doctor Eggman|Dr. Robotnik]] as the last playable character. Appearing in a Marble Zone world labeled "...," the level is set in a castle with walls covered in blood and ghostly blue flames. As Robotnik walks down the staircase, the scene becomes erratic, culminating in Sonic.exe's intervention. An abrupt static screen transitions to an image of ''Sonic.exe'' with the text "I AM GOD" followed by an eerie silence. Following this, the game ended with a game-over screen. This scene depicts ''Sonic.exe'' moving past mutilated Knuckles, Tails, and Robotnik.<ref>This game-over screen can only be found in older versions of the game.</ref> An effort to escape triggers another image of ''Sonic.exe'' grinning with the phrase "I AM GOD". The screen shifts to an image featuring Japanese text and Sonic.exe in the background, accompanied by an eerie melody from the game's song Crytopia.<ref>web.archive.org/web/20130520223241/<nowiki>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkDyvfYgEOM</nowiki></ref>
===Secret ending route===
[[File:Tailssecretending.png|thumb|right|200px|As Tails, the unfamiliar level can be accessed by going through the left side of the screen after the music stops.]]
While playing as Tails, progress until you come upon the remains of deceased animals strewn across the ground and among the palm trees, and run to take the left path. Navigating through this will guide you to an unfamiliar level. In this location, you'll spot Sonic positioned below. Upon making contact with Sonic, more static follows, accompanied by the message "The fire awaits." Subsequently, Tails returns to HILL. As you proceed left, you'll notice a black ring that you can collect.

When assuming the role of Knuckles, proceed along the same leftward path as Tails. Upon reaching a sizeable pit, jumping into it sets off a series of glitches alongside the message "Don't like playing by the rules?" Keep moving forward to the FFFFFFFFF course, where Knuckles encounters a succession of photosensitive-inducing screens. Navigating through these distorted words ultimately leads to a definitive message: "YOU'RE NEXT" followed by static. Knuckles subsequently returns to "YOU CAN'T RUN" and continues to the left, discovering a second black ring that they can collect.

Robotnik begins by walking to the right and then proceeds to the left, following a route akin to that of Tails and Knuckles. As you opt for the left path, static emerges, leading Robotnik to an unnamed course. Text becomes visible: "Why do you persist in fighting? My game has only just begun." Further static follows, and Robotnik returns to "...". Move left once more to locate the third black ring, available for you to collect.

After obtaining all 3 black rings, the game wraps up and transitions to an image that brings to mind the Japanese text, now translated into English. The text conveys:

{{Quote|"There is a way to release ourselves. A spell to obtain our souls once more. But we must speak it — but when we speak — No sound. We are all deaf. So failure is inevitable. And I regret ever entering my internal bet with the devil inside of me. Immortality vs. soul snatching. Gary Crook vs. Jake Shanley.<ref>MY5TCrimson's Colleagues facebook.com/my5tcrimson/photos/gary-crook-vs-jake-shanley-ambition-is-overrated-so-yeah-if-youre-wondering-who-/745614748927093/</ref> Ambition is overrated."}}

Following this, the display shifts to an unnamed static course, and the player assumes control of the authentic Sonic. Advancing to the right, they will come across the phrase: "You had a chance to complay, but now you've come too far." Upon finishing the course, final words emerge: "The time has come for your soul to join theirs." A close-up of ''Sonic.exe'' appears, and Sonic vanishes (his fate remains unknown), followed by a malevolent, distorted laugh. Japanese text emerges amid the static.

==Impact==
In addition to the original creepypasta story, the popular 2D side-scrolling platformer game was developed by MY5TCrimson. The game closely follows the original storyline,<ref name="Daily">The Daily Dot. "Is Sonic.exe real? The story of the creepy video game hack." 16 Dec. 2019, https://www.dailydot.com/unclick/sonic-exe-creepypasta/.</ref> The player controlling Sonic's friends (including Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik) and encountering unsettling occurrences as they progress through familiar levels such as [[wikipedia:Green Hill Zone|Green Hill Zone]], albeit with darker and more disturbing twists. This remake proved to be highly influential in the horror game genre, inspiring numerous fan-made remakes and sequels that created a subgenre of ".exe" games. These games typically feature well-known video game characters, such as Mario or Sonic, who have been corrupted or possessed, and the player must navigate through a dark and twisted version of their world. Fans of the genre also began creating their games based on these stories, using game engines like RPG Maker or Game Maker. Some of the most popular ".exe" games that followed ''Sonic.exe'' include [[Luna Game]], [[Yoshi.exe]], and [[Uchakip]], among others. These games often include similar themes to ''Sonic.exe'', such as corrupted game files, distorted music, and [[jump scares]]. This game would later get an official remaster known as ''SONIC 2011'' by Sonic.exe's new owner JoeDoughBoi.<ref>gamejolt.com/games/sonic/783884</ref>
'''Extreme Video: Car Crash''' was a [[screamer]] game created by [[Liquid Generation]]. The screamer was taken down along with the entire Liquid Generation website.

The game features an intense video montage that can be played, resumed, or paused by the player. The first video depicts an officer almost being struck by a vehicle in 2002, and the player is prompted to replay it. However, upon replaying the video, blood splatters are added, and a picture of a cop's head scrolls down the bottom of the screen, making for a startling and disturbing surprise.
'''(YTPT) Scabs kicks someone's eye''' is a [[screamer]] video uploaded to [[YouTube]] by ''Louie'' (a.k.a. VideoEditor2000 and VYEAL666) on June 22nd, 2015. It was the 11th YTP Tennis round to the "Scabs Poop Chain" which features 2 screamers at the end of the cutoff prevention. It was previously reuploaded by ''Gabrielpika/Lopun Gerts'' and remained this way until it resurfaced publicly. The video is known for its use in the video "K.../M....(.....(YTPT) Scabs kicks someone's eye", also known as "My Edited Video".

The video begins with Louie saying the following: "Guys, when i saw this video, i just got a new logo so enjoy this.. episode and this round. so.. the round next is JC so, let's play." Then features a ton of visual effects and random sources such as [[Wikipedia:The Aquabats!
The video cuts to text reading "Your Turn Jose Cura", followed by a clip of ''[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nbduPUAdRs The D U Htterfinger Quick as D U H Sensest!]'' video. The scene then cuts to black, with the 4L logo appearing. The [[wikipedia:Klasky_Csupo|Klasky-Csupo]] robot appears zooming in with black eyes and red pupils, accompanied by a distorted roar. Text follows, stating "THIS IS A WARNING", and Louie says, "Warning, this part is very scary so be careful". After a brief pause, the Klasky Csupo <span title="A horror variant of Klasky Csypo" style="cursor:help">Zplaat</span> from the Rugratslostepisode.avi [[creepypasta]] jumps out with the scream from the [[K-fee commercials]]. '''Ghost Footage''' was a [[screamer]] video uploaded to [[YouTube]] by ''VenerableDread'' on November 5th, 2006.

The video starts with some text prompting the viewer to find something wrong with a low-quality image of a graveyard. The message is “This is some footage in a graveyard. However, something seems wrong. Very wrong. Watch closely”. It then displays the image. 13 seconds into the video, a red-filtered picture of [[Pennywise]] from the 1990 miniseries ''It'' pops up, accompanied by a loud scream. The final segment of the video displays text stating that "You should have realized that it wasn’t actually ghost footage, you twit! Made by VenerableDread." The text fades away, and the video ends.
